Looking Back, to see Forward

"When you have come to the edge of all the light you have And step into the darkness of the unknown Believe that one of the two will happen to you Either you'll find something solid to stand on Or you'll be taught how to fly"

  • Richard Bach

After working on the core of eBrainPool concepts and technologies, for this long, trying to determine for ourselves if we were crazy or not, It is maybe time to sit back for an ever brief moment and examine a little more in detail from where this all came from. This is only to really try and understand what the idea and the core concepts are about. The below diagram is something we had drawn way back in 2006, fresh off the back of UVAC 2006. I should stress here, this is the original idea and has been changed considerably from then, the below diagram is no longer current by any stretch of the examination. So why is this up?  It's well said by the richard back quote above, when we embarked on this journey, we were stepping into the unknown, looking back now, we can appreciate the tough decisions we took.

Since then the idea has grown, adapted and being changed so much, it resembles very little of the above diagram. The past two months have been great. New vigour, new contacts, some great community interaction all in all which makes us happy we stuck with this idea.

We no longer use a Virtualisation Layer, Meshed networks are now used, Graphical interfaces (X architecture)  is now used.. but the core idea is still the same and hopefully the above diagram is another small step towards explaining it all.

A lot of experiments, technologies and ideas were examined before we settled on the current set, which is already quite different from whats above. Looking ahead (see Roadmap) with Avahi, Fuse and other fun stuff coming in, the future looks very exiting to us here.
